The Moscow List

How we choose and check places

The Moscow List is MEE's guide to restaurants and bars for internationals in Moscow. This is how a place gets on it, what each label means and how we keep it current.

How a place gets on the List

We start from what reviewers, guides and locals consistently say, including the 2022 Michelin Guide (Moscow's only edition so far), Yandex Eda's Ultima Guide, Afisha and the press, and from places the MEE community recommends.

A place stays when it's good at what it sets out to do and useful to someone choosing a night out: a reason to go, a fair price for what it is, and a way to actually get in.

No one pays to be here

No venue pays to be on the List, for its place in it, for what we write about it, or for a badge. If we ever sell something to a venue, such as photography or a hosted evening, it's labelled and kept separate from the List.

What the labels mean

MEE verified: we've hosted one of our own evenings there. MEE tested: someone on the team has been and vouches for it. Michelin 2022: the award from that edition, which may not reflect today.

"Good for" and "Is this right for your night?" are our editorial reading of reviews, guides and the venue's own description. Unless a place is MEE tested or verified, we haven't been yet, and we say so.

How we check the details

Hours, phone numbers, booking channels, the Russian address and payment come from the venue's own site and from public listings such as Yandex Maps and 2GIS. Each profile shows when that was last done. When a member of the team confirms them by phone or in person, the profile says "Checked by the MEE team".

If we don't know something, we say "still checking" rather than guess. Filters only match confirmed facts, and the night planner marks anything you should check before you go.

Prices are estimates worked out from current menu prices, or the List's typical spend per person, always with the basis shown. They cover food and drink, not tips.

Photos

We only show photos we took, photos a venue has given us permission to use, or openly licensed photos, each with a credit. We never show generated pictures of real places. Where we have no photos yet, the page says so.

Corrections

Places change. If something on a profile is wrong, use "Something changed? Tell us" on that page. We re-check every place at least every three months, and straight away when someone reports a change. Venues can send corrections too, but they can't edit our recommendations.
